The Al-Mustaqbal Center for Strategic Studies held a seminar at the Al-Nabaa Foundation for Culture and Media titled “Arbaeen Pilgrimage and Transformations in Citizenship Awareness.” The event brought together researchers, academics, and media professionals to discuss the symbolic, social, and political dimensions of the annual pilgrimage.
Dr. Asaad Kazem Shubib, an academic researcher at the center, presented a paper highlighting Arbaeen’s role as one of the world’s largest religious gatherings in fostering national identity and shaping concepts of citizenship. He noted that the participation of millions of visitors from Iraq and abroad in the Karbala march strengthens social cohesion and unity.
Discussions focused on four main themes: the symbolic aspects of Arbaeen, manifestations of citizenship during the pilgrimage, its contribution to promoting national values, and the challenges and opportunities it presents. Participants stressed that Arbaeen is a global event with humanitarian and ethical significance beyond local or sectarian boundaries.
