Karbala’s Civil Defense Directorate has implemented a comprehensive security and safety plan for the Arbaeen pilgrimage, deploying over 150 fire and rescue teams along with modern firefighting and rescue vehicles. The operation, which began on the first of Safar, aims to ensure visitor safety and has so far reported no major incidents.

Brigadier General Saad Ismail Al-Muhyawi, the director of civil defense, said inspection teams have been checking safety compliance at hotels, key facilities, and sites in the old city, near the holy shrines, and across districts and neighborhoods. Non-compliant establishments have been closed.

The directorate’s fleet has been reinforced under a government initiative, adding nine ladder trucks and advanced emergency vehicles dedicated to the pilgrimage. Al-Muhyawi noted that only two minor incidents were recorded, crediting the extensive coverage and readiness of field teams for the smooth and safe progress of the event.
