Arbaeen March Postponed After Government and Shia Leaders Agree on Seven-Point Agenda

The Arbaeen march, a major religious procession, has been postponed following an agreement between the government, the Shia Ulema Council, and the Majlis Wahdat Muslimeen (MWM), Aaj News reported. The MWM announced the decision during a joint press conference in Karachi, according to a report from AAJ TV.

The agreement includes a seven-point agenda, with the government committing to the formation of a high-level committee that will include members from the MWM and the Shia Ulema Council to oversee negotiations.

In a move to accommodate pilgrims, the government has decided to arrange special flight operations to Iraq within two to three days. Additionally, it will seek to extend the validity of Iraqi visas by 60 days, and pilgrims who already have visas will be offered discounted flight tickets. The government also apologized for the difficulties that pilgrims faced this year and agreed to allow students at the border to enter Iran.

Governor Sindh Kamran Tessori stated that the decision to postpone the march was made to resolve issues through dialogue rather than protest, emphasizing that access to holy shrines should not be restricted.
