The Nigerian Army has reported that its troops killed 17 Boko Haram terrorists during clearance operations in the northeastern states of Borno and Adamawa, Anadolu Agency reported. The operations were conducted by the North East Joint Task Force, with confirmation from Captain Reuben Kovangiya, the acting director of Army Public Relations.
According to a report from Anadolu Agency, the troops recovered a significant cache of weapons, ammunition, and other supplies, including AK-47 rifles, a PKT gun, and various logistics items. The soldiers also successfully detonated 14 improvised explosive devices (IEDs) planted by the terrorists.
The operations are part of a continued offensive by Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK), which is supported by close air support and the Civilian Joint Task Force. In addition to the counter-terrorism efforts, the military facilitated the safe return of over 987 internally displaced persons (IDPs) to their homes in Mandaragrau, Biu Local Government Area, as part of the Borno State Government’s resettlement plan.
Boko Haram has been a major security challenge in Nigeria since 2009, with the conflict causing thousands of deaths and widespread destruction.
