Five people have been killed and one injured in a shooting at Or Tor Kor Market in the Bang Sue district of northern Bangkok, Thailand, Al Jazeera reported. The incident occurred at 12:31 pm local time (05:31 GMT) on Monday, according to the Royal Thai Police.

All five victims were security guards at the market. The suspected shooter reportedly took his own life at the scene. Deputy police chief Worapat Sukthai described the event as a mass shooting and said authorities are investigating the motive. Police are also examining any possible connection to ongoing border clashes between Thailand and Cambodia.

Surveillance footage showed the suspect wearing a black T-shirt, a cap, camouflage shorts, and carrying a backpack across his chest, the Thai Public Broadcasting Service reported.

Gun violence is relatively frequent in Thailand compared to other Southeast Asian countries. Notably, in 2020, a junior army officer carried out a shooting spree in Nakhon Ratchasima, killing 29 people and injuring 58.
