India: Muslim Council Dimapur Issues Advisory Amidst Eviction Drives in Nagaland

The Muslim Council Dimapur (MCD) has urged its community members in Dimapur, Niuland, India, and Chumukedima districts to remain vigilant against a potential influx of individuals displaced by recent eviction drives. This advisory comes after over 80% of encroachers voluntarily vacated the Rengma Reserve Forest in Uriamghat.
Ahidur Rahman, working president of the MCD, stated that the issue of displaced individuals attempting to enter these districts not only concerns the state administration but also directly impacts the Muslim community. The council has advised its members to report any unfamiliar individuals or suspicious activities to local authorities. Furthermore, the MCD has issued a stern warning that providing accommodation or aid to evicted individuals could result in legal action and potential expulsion from the community.
Similar eviction efforts have been ongoing in various parts of Assam. Himanta Biswa Sarma, the Chief Minister of Assam, has affirmed the legality and systematic nature of these drives, emphasizing their aim to protect tribal land.
