NASA to Cut 20% of Workforce Amid Restructuring and Budget Reductions
………………….

NASA announced on Saturday that approximately 20% of its workforce—around 3,870 employees—will be leaving the agency as part of a restructuring effort aimed at improving management and operational efficiency. A NASA spokesperson noted that the final number may fluctuate in the coming weeks, leaving an estimated 14,000 employees remaining, according to Reuters.

The workforce reduction follows a wave of federal budget cuts introduced by President Donald Trump since his return to office. The first round of layoffs began in March and included several high-ranking scientists. The administration’s broader cost-cutting measures have also impacted other federal science agencies, particularly those involved in climate and health research.

NASA has played a key role in environmental monitoring through its fleet of Earth-observing satellites and extensive climate studies. The planned layoffs have raised concerns within the scientific community about the potential impact on ongoing climate research and data accessibility.
