At least six people were killed in a stampede at the Mansa Devi temple in Haridwar, northern India, Arab News reported citing Garhwal Division Commissioner Vinay Shankar Pandey. The incident occurred as a large crowd gathered at the temple on Sunday.

Local police and rescue teams promptly arrived at the scene and are actively engaged in relief and rescue operations, Uttarakhand Chief Minister confirmed on X. The injured have been transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.

India has experienced several deadly crowd accidents in recent months. In January, over 30 people died during the Maha Kumbh Hindu festival when millions gathered to bathe in sacred waters. More recently, in June, at least 11 people lost their lives in crowd chaos outside a cricket stadium following the Indian Premier League (IPL) final. Authorities continue to emphasize the importance of crowd management and safety measures during large public gatherings to prevent such tragic incidents.
