Flash Floods in Eastern China Leave Two Dead, Ten Missing
………………..
Flash floods in China’s eastern Shandong province have killed two people and left ten missing, according to state media reports. The floods were triggered by heavy rainfall, with up to 364 millimeters of rain falling in Jinan, the provincial capital, between midnight and 5 a.m., as reported by CCTV. The deluge impacted two villages in Dawangzhuang town, damaging or destroying 19 homes.
Authorities have launched search and recovery operations and pledged to continue rescue efforts and post-disaster support in an orderly manner. Flash floods and other natural disasters are frequent in China, especially during the summer months when some areas are hit by intense rainfall while others suffer extreme heat.
Earlier this year, floods in Guizhou province resulted in six deaths and forced over 80,000 evacuations. A separate incident in Sichuan province this month saw a deadly landslide claim five lives. China continues to face climate challenges while aiming for carbon neutrality by 2060.
