Sudan Faces Worsening Food Crisis Amid Ongoing Conflict
——————————
As Sudan’s conflict enters its third year, the humanitarian situation is rapidly deteriorating, Reliefweb.int reported. Over 10 million people have been displaced, while the country’s economy is in crisis. Essential services—including water, sanitation, health care, and markets—have been severely damaged.

Fierce fighting continues in Greater Darfur and Greater Kordofan, causing critical food insecurity, poor health and nutrition outcomes, and severely limiting humanitarian access. Isolated communities in El Fasher and the Nuba Mountains face extreme food shortages, minimal access to basic services, and overstretched social support systems.

According to the latest Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC) analysis, the food security and nutrition situation is expected to worsen significantly during the lean season from July to September 2025. Internally displaced persons (IDPs) and populations in famine-affected areas of North Darfur, South Kordofan, and other high-risk zones in Greater Darfur and Kordofan are most vulnerable.

Alarmingly high levels of acute malnutrition were recorded during the post-harvest season, compounded by limited access to treatment services, posing severe risks to children’s health during the lean months.

With road access expected to deteriorate further, urgent political intervention and large-scale humanitarian aid—including food, nutrition, water, and health support—are essential to prevent further loss of life and alleviate human suffering.
