Over 100 migrants intercepted off Libyan coast

Libyan authorities have intercepted 113 migrants off the country’s coast and recovered three bodies in separate operations over the past three days, Arab News revealed. The Ministry of Interior reported the discovery of three deceased migrants of African nationalities on a beach in Misrata, approximately 200 kilometers east of Tripoli.
On the same day, security forces intercepted 54 migrants near Garabulli, 50 kilometers east of Tripoli, and returned them to the capital’s port. The previous day, 20 migrants of various nationalities were rescued off Zawiya, 45 kilometers west of Tripoli, as part of intensified maritime patrols during the summer. Additionally, 39 migrants were intercepted off Tripoli’s eastern coast on Saturday.
Since the 2011 overthrow of Muammar Gaddafi, Libya has become a major transit point for thousands of migrants attempting to reach Europe. Many are forcibly returned to Libya by authorities and detained under harsh conditions, a practice frequently condemned by the United Nations due to human rights concerns.
