Chinese Scientists Grow Beating Human Heart in Pig Embryo
………………

Chinese researchers have successfully cultivated a beating heart structure using human cells inside a pig embryo for the first time. The heart continued to beat unaided for 21 days, according to a study led by Lai Liangxue’s team at the Guangzhou Institutes of Biomedicine and Health under the Chinese Academy of Sciences.

The breakthrough, presented at the International Society for Stem Cell Research’s meeting in Hong Kong on June 12, involved reprogramming human stem cells to enhance survival in pigs. Modified cells were implanted into early-stage pig embryos and transferred to surrogate sows for development.
