Lebanese Army Captures Senior Islamic State Leader “Qasoura” in Major Raid

The Lebanese army announced the arrest of a senior Islamic State (IS) leader known as “Qasoura” following extensive intelligence and surveillance operations, The New Arab reported. The operation resulted in the seizure of weapons, ammunition, electronic devices, and equipment used for drone manufacturing.
Qasoura, identified as R.F., was reportedly born in 1997, holds a master’s degree in chemistry, and possesses expertise in telecommunications and electronic systems. He was appointed to lead IS operations in Lebanon after the arrest of his predecessor, “Abu Saeed Al-Shami,” in December 2024.
The Lebanese army highlighted that Qasoura had been planning multiple security operations within the country. IS and other jihadist groups have a history of violent clashes with the Lebanese army and have targeted Shia-majority areas during the 2010s.
Although IS never controlled territory in Lebanon, its sleeper cells remain active in the region. Lebanon continues to maintain high alert for militant threats amid ongoing instability in neighboring Syria.
