More than 40 people, including children and healthcare workers, were killed in an attack on Al Mujlad Hospital in West Kordofan, Sudan, on Saturday, Arab News reported citing the World Health Organization. The hospital is located near the frontline between the Sudanese army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces, who have been engaged in conflict since April 2023.

WHO Director General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus condemned attacks on health infrastructure and called for an immediate end to such violence, though he did not specify who was responsible for this particular attack. The WHO Sudan office reported that six children and five medical staff were among the dead and described extensive damage to the hospital facility.

Human rights group Emergency Lawyers accused an army drone of striking the hospital, reporting a lower death toll of nine in their Sunday statement. The attack highlights the ongoing dangers faced by civilians and medical personnel amid Sudan’s protracted conflict.
