Mob Attack on Wedding Bus in Nigeria Leaves 12 Dead

Twelve people were killed after a mob attacked a bus carrying Muslim wedding guests in Nigeria’s Plateau state, the presidency confirmed on Sunday. The victims included the groom’s father and brother.
The group, reportedly en route to a wedding, lost their way and stopped to ask for directions when they were accosted by a mob. Survivors said they were assaulted with sticks, machetes, and stones, and the bus was later set on fire. Authorities initially reported eight deaths, with four missing.
President Bola Tinubu condemned the attack as “unacceptable and barbaric,” urging state authorities to take decisive action to break the cycle of violence. He also called for the arrest and prosecution of those responsible.
The incident comes amid rising tensions in Plateau state, where recent clashes between Fulani Muslim herders and Christian farming communities have claimed dozens of lives. Police have arrested 22 suspects linked to the mob attack.
