Baghdad named Capital of Islamic Culture for 2026
Iraq’s Minister of Culture, Tourism, and Antiquities, Ahmed Fakak Al-Badrani, announced Thursday that Baghdad has been chosen as the Capital of Culture for Islamic Countries in 2026. The decision was made by the Arab League Educational, Cultural, and Scientific Organization (ALECSO).
Al-Badrani said preparations are underway in coordination with various ministries and cultural institutions. He also noted a steady rise in foreign tourism, with visitors flocking to historic sites in Baghdad, Ur, Babylon, Ashur, and Hatra.
The Ministry plans to release official tourism statistics by the end of the year, reflecting the ongoing growth in international arrivals.
