The office of Grand Ayatollah Sayyed Sadiq al-Husseini al-Shirazi in Holy Najaf received a delegation from Iraq’s Ministry of Interior advisors on rehabilitation and mental health. The meeting focused on enhancing recovery centers and supporting reintegration efforts for individuals battling addiction.
Hujjat al-Islam Sheikh Mohammad Taqi al-Zakari, head of the Shirazi office in Holy Najaf, emphasized the importance of a holistic approach to addiction recovery—spiritually and behaviorally—rooted in Islamic teachings and traditions of the Ahl al-Bayt, peace be upon them. He proposed practical ideas based on religious principles to support sustainable rehabilitation and prevent relapse.
He also highlighted the need for vocational training post-treatment to help individuals rebuild their lives with dignity. Special attention was called to supporting the families of recovering individuals, both during and after treatment, as family stability is seen as essential for long-term recovery. The meeting reflects the Supreme Authority’s ongoing commitment to humanitarian and social reform efforts across Iraqi society.
