Daesh Attack Kills SDF Fighter in Eastern Syria

The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), a US-backed Kurdish-led militia, reported on Monday that one fighter was killed and another wounded in an attack by Daesh (ISIS) in Syria’s eastern Deir el-Zor province, Arab News reported.
The SDF played a pivotal role as America’s primary ally in the campaign that crushed Daesh’s self-declared caliphate across parts of Syria and Iraq in 2019. In a significant shift, the group agreed in March 2025 to integrate with Syria’s new government, now controlled by former militants who overthrew President Bashar al-Assad in 2024.
Despite Daesh’s territorial defeat, clashes persist, particularly in eastern Syria. Last month, the extremist group killed five SDF fighters in one of its deadliest recent assaults, underscoring its lingering threat.
