At least 11 perish in New Delhi building collapse

At least 11 people, including three children, died when a residential building collapsed early Saturday in Mustafabad, a northeastern district of New Delhi, India, Dawn News Agency reported. Rescue teams worked throughout the day to dig through the rubble, managing to save 11 others who were hospitalized, with five still receiving treatment. The four-storey building, located in an area predominantly housing migrant workers, reportedly collapsed suddenly, described by local media as falling “like a stack of cards.”

Delhi minister Kapil Mishra blamed corruption and illegal construction practices by the municipal government, urging a thorough survey and strict action against unauthorized buildings. Building collapses are common in India’s major cities, often involving illegal structures occupied by migrant workers.
