Gorakhpur Mosque Committee Dismantles Illegal Structure

The mosque committee in Gorakhpur voluntarily demolished the illegally constructed Abu Huraila Mosque after receiving a 15-day ultimatum from the Gorakhpur Development Authority (GDA), Muslim Mirror reported. Located at Ghosh Company Chowk, the four-story mosque was built on municipal land without the necessary approvals.
Despite previous warnings and a bulldozer clearing earlier encroachments, the mosque was rebuilt. Following a notice issued on February 15 to Shoaib Ahmed, son of the mosque’s late caretaker, the committee began dismantling the structure as the deadline expired.
The GDA had threatened to demolish the mosque themselves if the committee failed to comply, stating they would recover demolition costs from the builder. The site is now set for a multi-level commercial complex, reflecting ongoing efforts by local authorities to address unauthorized constructions in the area. This incident follows similar demolitions in neighboring districts, including the Madni Mosque in Kushinagar and the Jahangir Khan Mosque in Meerut.
