Muslims in Spain’s Melilla outraged by Adhan ban
The Muslim community in the Spanish city of Melilla has expressed strong anger following a decision by the Ministry of Environment to ban the use of loudspeakers in mosques between 9 PM and 9 AM.
In an official statement, the Islamic Committee in Melilla rejected the decision, calling it a violation of essential religious practices, particularly the Fajr (dawn) call to prayer, which is integral to daily worship.
The committee asserted that the measure infringes on the Muslims’ right to freely practice their religion, pointing out that it was not consulted or involved in any agreement with the Ministry of Environment regarding these restrictions.
It described the restrictions as “unjustified” and an infringement on the rights of Muslims, urging authorities to review the decision in a manner that respects religious freedoms and strengthens societal harmony.
