Grand Ayatollah Shirazi Explains “amārah” During Daily Scholarly Session

On Sunday, the 7th of Jumada al-Awwal, Grand Ayatollah Sayyid Sadiq al-Hosseini al-Shirazi led his daily scholarly session at his honourable residence in Qom. As in previous sessions, the Supreme Marja addressed various jurisprudential questions from attendees.

Grand Ayatollah Shirazi explained the concept of amārah, stating that it is a term used in the principles of jurisprudence to denote items designated by the Divine Legislator for subjects, not for rulings.

His Eminence further elaborated that, for instance, the statements of experts and knowledgeable individuals have been deemed authoritative as Hujjah by the Divine Legislator, and such instances are referred to as amārah.

Regarding the difference between amārah and principle, he noted that amārah serves as Hujjah (Proof) for the subjects, whereas principles do not serve as Hujjah for subjects but rather articulate duties based on evidence from Hadith.
