Indian suppliers third largest provider of UNICEF’s health and nutrition support to children globally

Leila Pakkala, Director of UNICEF’s Supply Division, completed her first official visit to India, emphasizing the country’s significant contributions to UNICEF’s mission of improving child health. From 2016 to 2023, Indian suppliers provided nearly $6 billion in goods and services, making India the third-largest supplier for UNICEF globally.

During her visit, Pakkala toured a state vaccine storage site in Hyderabad, witnessing government initiatives aimed at enhancing child health and sustainable supply chain management. “Indian suppliers are essential to our work for vulnerable children worldwide,” she stated, highlighting the importance of vaccines, pharmaceuticals, and nutrition supplies.

Cynthia McCaffrey, UNICEF India Representative, noted the potential for deeper collaboration with India to meet global child health needs. UNICEF’s sustainable supply principles support the Indian government in developing cost-effective supply chains aligned with national policies and the Sustainable Development Goals, promoting equality and safety for children.
