India: Residents Demand Demolition of “Unauthorized” Mosque in Shimla
In Shimla’s Kasumpti area of India, residents are calling for the demolition of a mosque they claim was built without proper authorization, Muslim Mirror reported yesterday.
Concerns have been raised about the mosque’s construction on residential land, which allegedly violates local zoning regulations.
The community fears an influx of unidentified individuals and increased traffic congestion due to the mosque. A delegation, led by councillor Ranchana Sharma, presented their grievances to Shimla’s Deputy Commissioner Amit Kashyap and other officials.
This follows a recent protest in the Sanjauli area, where clashes with police resulted in injuries.
Violence against Muslim places of worship has been on the rise under the nationalist Modi Government.
