UNICEF Distributes Identity Bracelets to Protect Gaza’s Children Amid Crisis

In a critical effort to safeguard children in the Gaza Strip, UNICEF, with support from the Government of Japan, is distributing 450,000 identity bracelets, the organization’s website reported.

Since October 2023, the ongoing conflict has left at least 19,000 children separated from their families, navigating a landscape marked by displacement and danger.

The bracelets, primarily for children aged six and under, allow families to write essential information, such as names and contact numbers, to facilitate reunification if separation occurs. This initiative aims to provide a sense of security while avoiding instilling fear of separation among children.

With nearly one million children in need of mental health support, UNICEF emphasizes the importance of family unity for emotional well-being. The organization also educates caregivers on helping children cope with trauma through play and supportive activities. Amid scarce resources and rising malnutrition rates, these efforts are vital in ensuring that children remain with their families, offering them the comfort and support they desperately need.
