India: Tensions Rise in Madhya Pradesh Town After Cow Remains Found
Indian Hindutva groups clashed with police in Katangi, Madhya Pradesh, following the discovery of animal remains, Muslim Mirror reported yesterday.
Locals suspect the remains are from cows slaughtered by Muslim cattle smugglers.
Authorities collected the remains for examination, but reports indicate they are not recent or from cows. Despite this, Hindutva groups like VHP and Bajrang Dal held protests accusing the administration of bias and threatening Muslim residents. Videos show inflammatory speeches and calls for violence.
The district collector assured a reinvestigation, leading to a temporary halt in the protests. However, this is the latest incident in a string of religiously charged actions in Madhya Pradesh, including the arrest of Muslims for leaving animal remains near a temple and the demolition of Muslim homes allegedly linked to illegal beef trade.
