Anti-Muslim Incidents Surge in Germany, NGO Says

Germany’s Muslim community faces a rise in hate crimes, Anadolu Agency cited a recent report by Alliance Against Islamophobia and Anti-Muslim Hate (CLAIM).

The NGO has documented over 1,900 anti-Muslim incidents in 2023, a 114% increase from the previous year. This translates to over five incidents daily, including verbal abuse, assaults, and property damage.

CLAIM attributes this rise partly to the Israel-Palestine conflict escalation in October 2023.  They documented a surge in incidents during that period, suggesting a link between regional events and anti-Muslim sentiment.

Furthermore, concerns exist that many incidents go unreported due to a perceived lack of trust in authorities.

Germany, with nearly 5 million Muslims, has the second-largest Muslim population in Western Europe.
