UN chief calls on nations to urgently restore harmony with nature

UN Secretary-General issued a stern warning on International Mother Earth Day, emphasizing the urgent need for global cooperation to restore environmental harmony, Xinhua reported today.

Antonio Guterres described humanity’s actions as harmful to nature and highlighted the threats to food production, ocean and air quality, and overall environmental stability.

Guterres called for decisive actions to halt biodiversity loss, end pollution, and significantly reduce global greenhouse gas emissions.

He also demanded new national climate plans aimed at capping the global temperature rise at 1.5 degrees Celsius and challenged G20 nations to lead a rapid phase-out of fossil fuels.
