Iran’s missiles hit targets in Iraq’s Erbil, Syria; Kurdistan Regional Government demands int’l response

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) launched missiles at what it claimed were Israeli “spy headquarters” in Iraq’s Kurdish region and hit targets allegedly linked to ISIL (ISIS) in northern Syria, saying it was defending its security and countering terrorism.

The Kurdish Regional Government (KRG) in northern Iraq releases a statement on Tuesday saying four people were killed and six were wounded, dismissing IRGC’s alleged reasons for attacks as “baseless.”

Describing the attacks as a “clear violation of Iraq and the KRG’s sovereignty,” it called on the Iraqi central government and the international community not to remain silent against this crime.

Iraq recalled its ambassador from Tehran for consultations and summoned Iran’s charge d’affaires in Baghdad over the attacks, which were condemned by the US.
