Chairman of Indonesian Ulema Council urges government to enact anti-Islamophobia law

The chairman of the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) for foreign relations and international cooperation, Sudarnoto Abdul Hakim, has urged the Indonesian government to pass an anti-Islamophobia law.

“Islamophobia has now become a global crisis that threatens social life, stability, and the continuity of personal and public rights,” Sudarnoto said, quoted by MUI Digital on Monday.

According to him, the anti-Islamophobia law in Indonesia is aimed at protecting Muslims and society.

Sudarnoto explained that Islamophobia today often manifests itself in the form of harassment of the Holy Quran and discrimination against Muslims. The latest and most obvious form of hatred against Islam is the genocide committed by Israel against the Palestinian people.
