Turkey: 226 Workers, Including 15 Children, Killed in Workplace Accidents in One Month

A total of 226 workers were killed in workplace accidents in Turkey during August 2026, including children, women, and migrant workers, according to a report by the Occupational Health and Safety Council of Turkey (İSİG).

The council’s report, titled “Workplace Homicides,” said the victims included 15 children, 15 women, and 16 migrant workers, highlighting ongoing concerns over occupational safety conditions across the country.

According to the report, work-related traffic accidents were the leading cause of deaths, accounting for 22 percent of recorded fatalities. Falls from heights ranked second at 21 percent, while collapses and workers being trapped under debris represented around 19 percent of cases.

The deaths of 15 children in a single month raised particular concerns over the risks faced by underage workers, alongside the challenges affecting women and migrant workers in hazardous workplaces.

İSİG, which monitors workplace fatalities and occupational safety conditions in Turkey, said the figures underline the need for stronger prevention measures, improved inspections, and safer working environments.

The council emphasized the importance of protecting vulnerable groups, including children, women, and migrant workers, from workplace hazards, particularly in high-risk sectors involving transportation, construction, and dangerous working conditions.
