Türkiye Records Hottest July in Over Five Decades
………………….
Türkiye experienced its hottest July in 55 years, the Environment Ministry announced Saturday, as reported by Arab News. Data from 66 of the country’s 220 weather stations showed an average temperature increase of 1.9°C compared to previous years.
The month also saw a new national record when temperatures in Silopi, near the Iraq and Syria borders, reached 50.5°C, surpassing the previous high of 49.5°C set in August 2023 in Eskisehir.
The prolonged heatwave has been accompanied by multiple wildfires, particularly in the western regions, where 14 people died last month while combating blazes. On Friday, hundreds were evacuated from Canakkale in the northwest, leading to the temporary closure of the Dardanelles Strait to maritime traffic.
Authorities have also warned of possible water shortages, with the Aegean resort town of Cesme imposing nightly tap water restrictions for residents and tourists since July 25.
