Turkey Detains 168 Suspects for Deliberate Forest Fires Amid Worsening Blazes
—————————————
Turkish authorities have detained 168 individuals since June on suspicion of deliberately setting forest fires, as the nation battles a surge of devastating wildfires, Khaama Press reported. These blazes, exacerbated by soaring summer temperatures, are overwhelming emergency services and wreaking havoc across regions like Bursa and Karabük.
Justice Minister Yılmaz Tunç confirmed that 39 arrests have been made in recent days, with courts already issuing rulings for 64 suspects. The intense wildfires have led to tragic consequences, including one major blaze 150 kilometers east of Bursa that claimed the lives of 10 forestry workers and volunteers.
Authorities are urging citizens to report any suspicious activities, emphasizing that intentional arson is significantly worsening Turkey’s severe wildfire crisis. The ongoing blazes continue to destroy vital ecosystems and threaten rural livelihoods across the country.
