Ancient City of Sardis and Lydian Tumuli of Bin Tepe in Western Türkiye Added to UNESCO World Heritage List

The ancient city of Sardis and the Lydian Tumuli of Bin Tepe, located in Türkiye’s western Manisa province, have been officially inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List, Anadolu Agency reported quoting a Saturday announcement by the Turkish Minister of Culture and Tourism.
“This remarkable region, once the capital of the Lydian civilization and the birthplace of the world’s first coin, is now recognized as part of humanity’s shared heritage,” Mehmet Nuri Ersoy shared on social media.
In an official statement, the Turkish Foreign Ministry confirmed, “Sardis and the Lydian Tumuli of Bin Tepe, situated east of Manisa, were inscribed today (12 July) on the UNESCO World Heritage List during the 47th Session of the World Heritage Committee held in Paris.”
With this inclusion, the total number of UNESCO World Heritage sites in Türkiye has risen to 22, the ministry added.
