More than 450 undocumented migrants detained in one week as Turkish Police tighten control

Turkish authorities announced that 468 undocumented migrants were detained in Edirne city in the past week, Khaama Press reported yesterday.

It added that 18 individuals were arrested for human trafficking as a result of a joint operation by the Turkish police, which led to the seizure of seven vehicles carrying illegal migrants.

Last month, over a thousand undocumented migrants from Afghanistan and Pakistan were detained in the city, the news agency added.

Turkish police have been conducting extensive operations to identify, detain, and deport migrants in various cities. According to the Turkish Ministry of Interior, 15,816 migrants were detained by the coast guard in the first four months of 2024, and 28 migrants lost their lives in various migration incidents along the country’s coasts.
