The Rapid Support Forces (RSF) have taken control of the Heglig oil region in South Kordofan State, which contains Sudan’s largest oil field.

According to reports viewed by Shia Waves Agency, citing the Sudan Tribune, the area has witnessed intense clashes between the RSF and the Sudanese army in recent months.

Media reports say the capture of Heglig carries major economic significance, as the region has been a primary source of revenue for groups operating out of Port Sudan.
