Sudan Says Nearly 1,900 Factories Destroyed in Khartoum Amid Conflict

More than 1,800 factories have been damaged or destroyed in Khartoum by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), a Sudanese official said on Thursday, Anadolu Agency reported. Industry and Trade Minister Mahasen Ali Yaqoub told reporters in Port Sudan that a government survey documented 1,877 factories affected, including 553 completely destroyed and 1,267 partially damaged.
She said the assessment was conducted after the Sudanese army regained control of Khartoum in May 2025. According to Yaqoub, RSF attacks specifically targeted industrial infrastructure, including energy systems, in an effort to block the resumption of operations in the capital.
The minister warned that destruction across Khartoum, Al-Jazira and Sennar has effectively halted Sudan’s industrial sector, forcing the country to rely on imports for essential goods.
Sudan’s army and the RSF have been engaged in a violent power struggle since April 2023, a conflict that has killed thousands and displaced millions. The RSF continues to control all five states of Darfur, while the army holds most other regions, including Khartoum.
