Foreign ministers and senior officials from more than 20 countries issued a joint statement on Monday condemning atrocities and violations of international humanitarian law in Sudan, Anadolu Agency reported. The statement voiced “deep alarm” over reports of systematic violence against civilians, particularly following the Rapid Support Forces’ (RSF) capture of the city of El-Fasher.

It cited credible reports of ethnically motivated killings, sexual violence, deliberate starvation, and restrictions on humanitarian access, describing these as “abhorrent violations of international humanitarian law” that could constitute war crimes or crimes against humanity.

The group demanded an immediate end to hostilities and stressed that impunity must cease, calling protection and justice for the Sudanese people both a legal duty and a moral necessity. It also condemned the use of famine as a weapon, urging authorities to allow unrestricted aid delivery by the World Food Program, UNICEF, and other agencies in accordance with UN Security Council Resolution 2736.

The signatories, including Canada, Spain, the UK, Germany, Norway, and others, urged the warring parties to implement a ceasefire and a three-month humanitarian truce while rejecting any attempts to partition Sudan.

The International Organization for Migration reported that nearly 89,000 people have fled El-Fasher and surrounding areas since October 26. The ongoing conflict between the RSF and the Sudanese army, which began in April 2023, has killed thousands and displaced millions, despite multiple failed mediation efforts.
