Famine and Cholera Threaten El Fasher Amid Ongoing Siege in Darfur
……………….

A humanitarian crisis is deepening in El Fasher, North Darfur, as the city endures the fifteenth month of siege by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) amid ongoing conflict with the Sudanese army. Local activists warn that the city is approaching famine, with vital community kitchens—known as takayas—shut down due to severe shortages.

Compounding the crisis, a cholera outbreak is spreading rapidly. In the past 24 hours, 49 deaths were reported in displacement camps, with total cases reaching 2,719 since June, including 11 children currently in isolation centers. In neighboring West Kordofan, authorities reported 250 cases and 15 deaths in shelters housing those displaced by RSF attacks near Al-Nuhud.

Local and international organizations continue to sound alarms over the collapsing healthcare system across Darfur, where overall cholera infections have surpassed 2,500. Despite repeated international appeals, no effective ceasefire has been secured to allow humanitarian aid into El Fasher.
