RSF attack kills 48 in central Sudan village

Sudan’s paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) put to death 48 civilians in an attack on a village in the center of the war-torn country, Arab News reported today.

The Emergency Lawyers, a group that has documented atrocities throughout the two-year conflict between the regular army and the RSF, reported civilians were killed en masse Sunday when paramilitary fighters stormed the village of Um Garfa in North Kordofan state, razing houses and looting property.

The ongoing conflict over power by military rivals has triggered the world’s largest displacement crisis and a deepening humanitarian catastrophe that remains grossly underfunded and underreported. It is estimated that more than 150,000 people have lost their lives. Over 14 million people have been forced from their homes – 11.3 million within Sudan and at least 3.5 million across borders, mainly into Chad, South Sudan, Egypt and beyond.
