Eight Civilians Killed in RSF Drone Strike on Shelter in El-Fasher, Sudan

Sudan’s paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) killed eight civilians in a drone attack on a shelter in the besieged city of El-Fasher, North Darfur, media outlets said citing local officials. The shelter was housing dozens of people seeking refuge amid ongoing violence.

El-Fasher remains one of the last major cities in Darfur outside RSF control but faces relentless artillery attacks as the RSF aims to consolidate power in the region. The conflict, ongoing since April 2023, has caused tens of thousands of deaths and triggered the world’s largest hunger and displacement crisis.

Nearly 40% of children under five in El-Fasher suffer from acute malnutrition, while critical infrastructure, including health services, has been severely damaged. The UN estimates around 780,000 people have been displaced from El-Fasher and nearby camps, contributing to Sudan’s 10 million internally displaced persons. Communications remain largely cut off due to the RSF’s control of much of Darfur.
