Sudan: 12 more civilians killed in RSF shelling in Darfur, army says

At least 12 civilians were killed and seven injured in fresh artillery shelling by the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in El-Fasher, North Darfur, Sudan, Anadolu Agency reported citing the army statement. The Sudanese army said it repelled an RSF attack on the city the previous night, killing and injuring dozens of militants and destroying three military vehicles.

The army condemned the RSF for indiscriminate shelling that killed women and children in northern and southern El-Fasher. The RSF has not commented on the incident. On April 29, the RSF demanded that the army and allied forces surrender their weapons and leave El-Fasher.

El-Fasher, a key humanitarian hub in Darfur, has experienced deadly clashes between the Sudanese army and RSF since May 2024. Fighting has displaced nearly 400,000 people and killed at least 400 civilians in the city alone. Since April 2023, the conflict has claimed over 20,000 lives and displaced 15 million nationwide, with some estimates placing deaths as high as 130,000.
