RSF shelling takes over 30 lives in besieged Sudanese city

Paramilitary shelling by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) on Sudan’s besieged city of El-Fasher in North Darfur has killed over 30 civilians and wounded dozens more, Arab News reported.

The attack on Sunday involved heavy artillery targeting residential neighborhoods, amid ongoing conflict between the Sudanese army and RSF since April 2023.

The war has caused tens of thousands of deaths and displaced 13 million people, creating what the UN calls the world’s worst humanitarian crisis. El-Fasher remains the last major city in Darfur outside RSF control, despite a recent RSF offensive capturing the Zamzam displacement camp, displacing approximately 400,000 people.

The UN reports that over 150,000 displaced people have fled to El-Fasher, with 180,000 moving to nearby Tawila. Humanitarian aid is critically limited in these famine-threatened areas. UN officials warn of worsening conditions, with restricted access hindering aid delivery. Medical charity Doctors Without Borders has called for urgent aid airdrops to assist the trapped population.
