UN Rights Chief Expresses Outrage Over Reports of Executions in Khartoum

UN rights chief Volker Turk has expressed his deep concern regarding reports of extrajudicial killings of civilians in Khartoum, Sudan, following the army’s recent recapture of the city from the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces, Arab News reported.

“I am deeply appalled by credible reports of multiple incidents involving summary executions of civilians in various areas of Khartoum, based on suspicions that they were collaborating with the Rapid Support Forces,” Turk stated in a press release.

This statement comes amid reports of at least 89 civilians having been killed and hundreds injured in attacks by Sudan’s paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) on villages in Omdurman, according to a Sudanese human rights organization.
