UNICEF Condemns Looting of Life-Saving Supplies in Sudan

UNICEF has strongly condemned the looting of essential humanitarian supplies from Al Bashair Hospital in Jabal Awlia, Khartoum, which included over 2,200 cartons of Ready-to-Use Therapeutic Food (RUTF), Reliefweb.com reported. This act jeopardizes the lives of more than 2,000 children suffering from Severe Acute Malnutrition (SAM).
The looting exacerbates an already critical humanitarian situation, with commercial supplies blocked for over three months due to ongoing conflict. Thousands are trapped in active fighting, and over 4,000 have fled within Khartoum.
Jabal Awlia, facing a famine risk, will suffer significantly from the loss of these supplies, which were meant for over 100,000 acutely malnourished children and healthcare for mothers and newborns. The situation is dire, with Sudan experiencing one of the world’s worst humanitarian crises, affecting over 24.6 million people.
