Sudanese Army Advances in Khartoum, Nears Control

Sudan’s military has reported significant progress in its campaign to retake Khartoum from the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF), marking a critical phase in the ongoing civil war., The Guardian reported. As the conflict approaches its two-year anniversary, the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) have made rapid advances, particularly towards the RSF-held Republican Palace in the capital.

Military sources indicate that SAF troops are close to entering central Khartoum, prompting speculation that the RSF may withdraw. Babikir Elamin, head of the Sudanese embassy in London, expressed optimism, stating that Khartoum could be cleared of RSF presence within days.

The conflict has devastated Sudan, resulting in tens of thousands of deaths and displacing 12 million people. In Omdurman, clashes have escalated, with recent RSF attacks claiming at least 54 civilian lives. The SAF’s recent capture of Wad Madani, a vital city, further strengthens their position, as many RSF fighters reportedly retreat to western Darfur.
