Over 14 Million Displaced in Sudan, IOM Reports

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) announced that over 14 million people have been displaced in Sudan, either internally or across borders, Reuters reported yesterday.

IOM Director-General Amy Pope reported that approximately 11 million individuals are internally displaced, while around 3.1 million have fled to neighboring countries. Since last month alone, about 200,000 people have been forced to leave their homes.

Pope emphasized that this figure also includes those displaced prior to the civil war that erupted in April 2023. The ongoing conflict has exacerbated the humanitarian crisis, leaving millions in urgent need of assistance. Displaced individuals are currently seeking refuge in various locations, including schools repurposed as shelters.
