Desperate Situation in Sudan’s El Fasher Amid Ongoing Siege

Aid workers in El Fasher, southwestern Sudan, report a worsening humanitarian crisis as a five-month siege intensifies, Reliefweb reported yesterday.

Approximately 2.8 million people in and around the city are trapped, unable to access vital assistance. The Zamzam refugee camp, home to 500,000 individuals, is facing famine conditions.

International NGOs highlight the severe psychological impact on children, many of whom are witnessing horrific violence. Reports indicate some boys are joining armed groups, while girls are marrying fighters for survival. Basic necessities are scarce, with many resorting to eating leaves to survive.

After nearly 18 months of conflict in Sudan, which has displaced 11.3 million people, the situation in El Fasher has become increasingly dire. Recent escalations in hostilities, including shelling and aerial bombardments, have further endangered lives. Aid workers, speaking anonymously, describe the city as “hell on earth” for vulnerable populations, calling for urgent action to protect those at risk and provide essential support.
