Sudanese Mosque Shelled by Paramilitaries, Family Killed

An activist group in Sudan is reporting a horrific attack on a mosque in El-Fasher, North Darfur. According to the Coordination of Resistance Committees, shelling by the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) on Monday resulted in the deaths of eight family members, most of them children, Anadolu Agency reported. 

There has been no comment from the RSF on the attack that also wounded twelve others.

This incident comes amid ongoing clashes between the RSF and the Sudanese army that began in May. The violence has reached El-Fasher, a critical hub for UN and international aid agencies working in Darfur.

Earlier on Monday, the World Food Programme (WFP) reported an attack by gunmen on aid trucks delivering food assistance to Central Darfur.

The conflict in Sudan, stemming from a power struggle between military leaders, has resulted in nearly 16,000 deaths, mass displacement, and a severe humanitarian crisis.

More than half of the population, around 26 million people, are staring at “crisis levels” of hunger and almost 9.4 million people have been driven from their homes, including about 1.9 million into neighbouring countries.
