UN urges immediate ceasefire in Sudan as access to aid restricted
The people of Sudan have suffered enough of the devastating war raging inside the country, UN investigators said on Thursday as the fighting rolls on into a second year.
Sudan’s warring parties must commit to an immediate ceasefire, end attacks on civilians and ensure unimpeded access to humanitarian aid, TRTWorld cited United Nations Independent International Fact-Finding Mission for the Sudan.
The World Health Organization (WHO) said on Friday that the crisis in Sudan could worsen in the coming months as the distribution of humanitarian aid and medical supplies remains restricted.
According to WHO, 15 million people are in need of urgent health assistance and diseases such as cholera, malaria and dengue are spreading in the war-torn African nation.
